In some cases, combined rail and road transport may be cheaper. This is not just good for your wallet, but also for the environment. Rail transport to Southern Europe usually takes one day longer. The longer lead time is, however, compensated by a lower rate.

Intermodal transport pays off for bulk goods with volumes of 20 tonnes or more, for hazardous materials and for relatively heavy goods. One container can carry a maximum of 28 tonnes or 110 m3, a lorry has a maximum of 25 tonnes.

The reliability of rail transport is currently at the desired level, as Bas Logistics has set up a collaboration with the Swiss train company Hupac, which is well-known for its highly accurate working methods.

Every day of the week, our own trailers, 45-feet containers and sets of transport containers set off from terminals in Rotterdam, Antwerp, Cologne and Lille for terminals in Northern Italy (Novara, Milan, Brescia and Verona) and for the south of France (Perpignan). The Bas Logistics lorries take care of pre-transport and post-transport.
